Terrorists Who Tried to Remove Me from Office Are In Nigeria, Turkish President Says -GCFRNG

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken out about fighting terrorism in his country and Nigeria Erdogan in a joint press conference with President Buhari in Abuja said the terrorist group that allegedly tried to overthrow him is active in Nigeria. Turkish pledged his country’s cooperation with Nigeria, especially in the fight against terrorism.

Aso Rock, Abuja – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the Fetullah Terror Organization (FETO), which he blamed for the failed July 15, 2016 coup attempt against his government, is still active in Nigeria. The Daily Trust reported that Erdogan said this on Wednesday October 20 at a joint press conference with President Muhammadu Buhari on the occasion of his official visit to Nigeria.

The Turkish president called on Nigeria to join his country in forging solidarity in the fight against terrorism in the two countries as one of Turkey’s oldest allies in Africa. He said Turkey has been closely following developments in Nigeria, describing the nation as brotherly and friendly.

Erdogan noted that his government will cooperate with Nigeria in the military, defense and security fields with the aim of defeating the terrorist organizations, armed gangs and bandits that threaten the peace of the country.

He said:

As we’re probably aware of the fact that Turkey has been fighting against terrorist organisations for many decades, such as the PKK, PYD, FETO, DASH and other terrorist organisations.

The perpetrator of the heinous failed coup of July the 15th, FETO, is still illegally active in Nigeria, and we are continuously sharing our intelligence with the Nigerian interlocutors and authorities. I hope and pray that our Nigerian brothers will forge a closer solidarity in this field with us, the Republic of Turkey. I hope and pray that our visit will yield the most auspicious results and I would like to thank my distinguished brother, President Buhari, for being such a gracious host for me and for my delegation.

In an earlier report, President Buhari made a phone call to Erdogan on Friday, May 14.

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said in a statement spotted by Legit.ng that Buhari called for greater Turkish involvement in the economy and humanitarian efforts in the northeast.

He said the two leaders had fruitful discussions and expressed satisfaction with the existing bilateral ties between the two countries. Legit.ng brought together the two leaders who expressed their desire for peace and stability to reign in the world, and to end all ongoing conflicts, as well as the coronavirus pandemic.
