Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia urged the Bayelsa Queens women’s handball team to stay focused on their remaining matches in the ongoing 2021 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.

Siasia, who is from Bayelsa, showed up at the league’s headquarters at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday to stimulate Bayelsa Queens.

“Handball is also a sport, so I came to support my state team. I came to cheer and support the state team in their games.

“I heard that Bayelsa Queens will be playing tonight and I came to encourage them to do better at their game.

“I am known for being a soccer player and coach. But hearing that a Bayelsa team is playing and there are not many of us in the state, I came to cheer on the team,” he told reporters.

However, the former Super Eagles forward said he was not satisfied with the team’s performance.

“I am not satisfied with the performance of the team with what I have seen, even though the game is still going on.

“But if they lost 9-15 in the first half, they can come back in the second half to take the lead,” he said.

Siasia added that the team needed to work hard to win its remaining games in the league.

Baylesa Queens ultimately lost 20-32 to Edo Dynamos in what was her sixth game in the competition’s 10-team women’s category.

Bayelsa Queens, like Thursday night, was ninth in the league record with eight points from six games, having won just one game and lost five games.

A total of 21 teams, comprising 10 women’s and 11 men’s teams, are participating in the main league.

The league, which began on October 21, will end on Wednesday.
