The Lagos Police Command announced on Saturday that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated to uncover the circumstances surrounding the demise of the singer known as Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba. In an official statement released through their verified social media platform, Lagos State Police Commissioner, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has directed a thorough inquiry into the matter, in response to mounting public concerns and an initial review by the police.
To oversee this inquiry, the Commissioner of Police has established a Special Investigation Team within the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The statement conveyed, “Given the increasing public concerns and the preliminary police review of the general circumstances surrounding the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has directed the commencement of a full-scale criminal investigation into the case.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team within the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to oversee the investigation.
“The team, comprised of experienced homicide detectives, has been assigned the responsibility of collating all allegations, suspicions, and suggestions from various sources regarding the singer’s death. Their task is to conduct a professional, diligent, and prompt investigation aimed at establishing facts, dispelling any doubts, and ensuring that justice is unquestionably served. This will be achieved through a meticulous process that may involve procedures such as exhumation, as well as the use of technical and scientific tools crucial to the thorough investigation of homicide allegations of this nature.
“In support of this effort, the Lagos State Government has pledged its full backing to the Special Investigation Team in any way necessary to ensure a thorough investigative process. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu provided this assurance during discussions with the State Commissioner of Police today, to ensure the case is expeditiously investigated and justice is promptly delivered.
“Meanwhile, an appeal is extended to the deceased’s family, friends, business associates, or anyone with pertinent information that could assist the investigation to kindly share it with the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department at 08036885727, and to actively support the Police in the pursuit of a conclusive investigation into the case.
“The Lagos State Police Command assures that the progress of the investigation, within legal and professional boundaries, will be duly communicated to the general public.”
