The FCT Police Command has affirmed that they have apprehended Tajudeen Baruwa, the national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), along with more than 20 other members for their involvement in actions constituting public disturbance and a breach of peace. According to SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, Baruwa and the others in custody will face charges including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and behavior likely to incite a breach of public peace, among other offenses.
Reports indicate that Tajudeen Baruwa, along with three other national NURTW officers and additional individuals, were summoned for questioning by the FCT Command on Tuesday and Wednesday. They were subsequently transferred to the former Special Anti-Robbery Squad facility in Guzape, which is currently under the management of the Intelligence Response Team.
Recalling events from Tuesday, a conflict erupted between factions of the union at the Garki 2 office, resulting in the FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, confirming the arrest of 23 male suspects and the seizure of weapons, including three rifles. Regrettably, one person lost their life during the violent altercation, prompting the police to detain numerous union members.
