PDP Scribe: Peter Obi, Udenwa, Ihedioha kick against alleged ‘imposition’ of Anyanwu as Southeast candidate -GCFRNG
Leaders of the Popular Democratic Party, PDP, in the Southeast have rejected what they called the imposition of Senator Sam Anyanwu as the consensus candidate for the position of national secretary of the area party.
The chiefs, including the former governors of the states of Anambra and Imo, Peter Obi and Chief Achike Udenwa, as well as Emeka Ihedioha, among others, pointed out that what happened at the PDP meeting held on Thursday, October 14 in Enugu and organized by Governor Ugwuanyi can best describe it as a stalemate.
No decision was made at the meeting, they insisted that the decision was made to elect Senator Anyanwu to represent the Southeast as the national secretary of the PDP.
According to them, Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu of Enugu and Abia states simply attended the meeting and announced the selection of Senator Anyanwu.
Most of the people who attended the meeting, according to PDP chiefs, vehemently opposed it and refused to accept it.
The PDP chiefs, according to a statement by Chief Madu Chinemerem, a former PDP official from Imo State, said: “What happened at the PDP meeting held on Thursday October 14 in Enugu hosted by Governor Ugwuanyi can best be described as a stalemate. .
“The meeting certainly did not elect Sam Anyanwu to represent the Southeast as the national secretary of the PDP.
“Governor Ugwuanyi and Ikpeazu came to the meeting and they just announced the selection of Sen Anyanwu. Most of the people who attended were vehemently opposed and refused to accept it.
“The entire Anambra delegation headed by Peter Obi rejected it. Imo delegates led by former governors Emeka Ihedioha and Achike Udenwa also rejected it.
“The state presidents of some of the state chapters also said no. The meeting ended without any agreement.
“What bothered the leaders of the Southeast the most was that a governor from the South-South imposed on Sen Sam Anyanwu, who nominated him.
“He is imposing his election on the governors of the southeast, just because he is serving as his special assistant.
“The meeting was also attended by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, Onyema Ugochukwu, Senator Uche Ekwunife, and many others and most of them did not agree with the imposition of Sam Anyanwu as secretary for not being a product of the zone . “
He continued: “I am very familiar with everything that happened at the meeting and I can say without fear of contradiction that what was reported as the consensus of the Southeast Zone PDP is a figment of the imagination of the author of the press release. It in no way reflects the outcome of the Enugu meeting. It is unfortunate.
“Definitely Anambra and Imo states have better office supplies if it is zoned for them,” the statement said.
