Anambra Governor Willie Obiano says he is seeking approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to open the state’s cargo and passenger airport for operations on October 21.
Obiano revealed this at a press conference after a tour of the airport and the International Conference Center in Umueri and Awka, respectively, on Sunday.
He said the airport was completed in 15 months and that if the regulatory authority approved the application, the project would open on October 21.
According to him, the stadium of the municipality of the ICC and Awka will be completed and hopefully he will swear in his successor on March 17, 2022.
The governor said the airport has the longest runway in Africa, with the best firefighting equipment and the tallest control tower in Nigeria.
He said the projects would place Anambra on the pedestal of economic prosperity.
He urged the people of the state to vote en masse for the Grand Progressive Alliance and its candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for the sustenance of development.
He also appealed to the media to criticize his administration in a constructive way by reporting on his projects and achievements.
