Nigeria Postal Service earned a revenue of N3.01 billion in the year 2022.

According to the Postal Service Data for 2022 released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in Abuja on Tuesday, there were notable changes in the postal sector:

  • The total count of Post Offices and Postal Agencies saw a 19.43% decrease, dropping from 2,794 in 2021 to 2,251 in 2022.
  • The number of installed mailboxes in 2022 was 836,731, indicating a slight decrease of 0.08% from the 837,428 recorded in 2021.
  • The count of Private Mail Bags (PMBs) available in 2022 was 20,775, showing an 8.44% decrease from the 22,689 reported in 2021.
  • The total volume of postal articles handled in 2022 surged by 102.05%, rising from 17.7 million in 2021 to 35.7 million in 2022.

The report further detailed that of these articles, 15,669,072 were domestic mail, while 543,893 were dispatched abroad. Additionally, 19,463,153 items were received from abroad and subsequently delivered within Nigeria.

The data revealed that in 2022, Lagos State had the highest number of installed mailboxes, with 143,416, while Jigawa recorded the lowest, with only 1,800.
