National Grid Collapses and causes Power Outage in South-East Again

Once again, the country has experienced a major failure in its power grid, resulting in a widespread outage of electricity across most regions. This incident took place in the early hours of Thursday at approximately 12:40am. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed this occurrence in a message addressed to its customers, as conveyed by Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC. The company explained that due to this system-wide breakdown, it is currently unable to deliver power to the five states within its operational jurisdiction. Additionally, they mentioned that they are in a state of preparedness, awaiting comprehensive information regarding the collapse and the subsequent restoration of power supply from the National Control Centre (NCC).

The statement issued by EEDC reads: “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform its valued customers of a complete system breakdown which occurred at 12:40am today, 14th September, 2023. This has resulted in the ongoing loss of electricity supply throughout the network. Because of this development, all our connection points with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are without power, and we regretfully cannot provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. We are standing by, awaiting detailed information about the collapse and the timeline for power restoration from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo.”
