List of New, Major Bilateral Deals Signed by Buhari, Turkish Govt -GCFRNG

The meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday October 20 at the Presidential Villa yielded mutual benefits that will unfold in a short time.

In a press conference after the visit, President Buhari revealed that he participated in very critical discussions on some bilateral issues, with the aim of strengthening the solid relationship between the two countries.

According to Buhari, the key issues were the finalized bilateral agreements and the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU).

Some of the sectors in Nigeria that will be positively affected by eight recently signed agreements are as follows:

Energy

Defense Industry

Security

Mining

HydroCarbons

Additionally, the federal government agreed to remove Turkey from its list of COVID-19 travel bans.

Speaking on this, President Buhari said:

In the course of our discussions, we also reviewed the travel ban list based on the revised COVID-19 protocols and removed Turkey from Nigeria’s Travel Ban List. Turkey has indeed achieved remarkable success in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president praised Erdogan and the First Lady of Turkey for commissioning the Turkish Cultural Center in Abuja and for opening the newly renovated Government Secondary School in Wuse, Abuja, undertaken by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIIKA).

For his part, Erdogan said his administration will continue to work with Nigeria in the battle against terrorism.

He stated:

We are ready to share our ever-expanding capabilities with Nigeria especially in the field of defence industry and security, which has been praised by the entire globe.

This sensitivity that we have showcased in fighting terrorism, I hope will be reciprocated by our Nigerian brothers, sisters, and counterparts.
