Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state has described the Petroleum Production Act, PIA, as a crime and oppression for the people of the Niger Delta.

He insisted that three per cent had been allocated to host communities in the minority law and that opposition would continue until justice was done.

Diri said, yesterday, at the special thanksgiving service of his special adviser on special duties to the chief minister of transport, government building, Mr Lucky Yobougha, and El-Shaddai Ministries International in Yenagoa.

Diri said in a statement that the introduction of this bill was a challenge for the Ijaw and the Niger Delta people, mainly against the 30% allotted for border and plate exploration in the northern part of the country.

Diri said: “It is now up to us as citizens of this state and most of the host communities that we can rise up against unthinkable, oppressive and critical laws that are unacceptable to us.

“Many ignorant people opposed the former governor of Bayelsa state, who rose up and supported the Senate tour. But that is what a good Ijawland child should do.

“You cannot be part of a decision that violates human rights and carries the wealth of your people. That is one of the tools we use as a minority against what is commonly called the National Convention. ”

He called for the reunion of the Ijaw people, who he said had been deliberately smuggled into five other states in the country except Bayelsa, adding that it was a plan to harass the Ijaw.

Diri promised to support the creation of two more states for the Ijaw tribe, namely the Rivers State and the Toru-Ibe state.

Earlier in his sermon, Archbishop Ugon-Owaji Ile of El-Shaddai Ministries International, said that God was looking for a man who would build wealth and make the Bayelsa people as rich as Nehemiah in the Bible.

Archbishop Ile described Bayelsa as one of the richest states in Nigeria but it will also be used for uncertainty and prayed that God would guide Governor Diri to successfully implement his Agenda for Prosperity for the people. Bayelsan.
