Elon Musk asked to build a Tesla Factory in Turkey not India

In August, Tesla expressed interest in establishing a factory in India dedicated to producing affordable electric vehicles. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, to consider building a Tesla facility in Turkey. This request was made during a meeting at Turkish House, a skyscraper located near the United Nations in New York, as reported by the Turkish state-owned news agency on a social media platform.

Additionally, Musk is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in California on Monday. Musk mentioned on the same platform that their discussions would revolve around advancements in artificial intelligence technology.

Erdogan is currently in the US to participate in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Both Tesla and the Turkish embassy in Washington have not yet responded to requests for comments.

It’s worth noting that Tesla had expressed interest in establishing a factory in India for the production of cost-effective electric vehicles. Currently, Tesla operates six factories and is in the process of constructing a seventh one in Mexico, located in the state of Nuevo Leon, as part of the company’s efforts to expand its global presence. Musk had previously stated in May that a decision regarding the location of a new factory would likely be made by the end of the year.

Tesla’s stock has seen a 123% increase in value this year, and the company announced on Saturday that it had manufactured its 5 millionth car.

In addition to leading Tesla, Musk acquired X, formerly known as Twitter, for $44 billion in 2022. While he identifies as a staunch advocate for free speech, Musk has complied with certain requests from the Turkish government to restrict content within the country. In other instances, the social media company has contested orders issued by Turkish courts.
