Check Out Messi’s Statue Before It Was Destroyed By Vandals -GCFRNG
Lionel Messi alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, will go down in history as the greatest players of all time when they finally retire from football.
The two professional footballers have won numerous trophies and awards especially from their respective clubs. However, they have yet to win the FIFA World Cup as they are nearing retirement from soccer.
Both players are loved by many, and as a way to commend their efforts, their statues were erected in their respective countries.
The Lionel Messi statue was unveiled in Argentina in June 2016, after his legendary soccer career. Like then, the 34-year-old has never lifted a trophy for his country in international men’s soccer.
This could be one of the reasons why the Lionel Messi statue was attacked by undisclosed hooligans. Here is the number of times the Lionel Messi statue was attacked;
- The bronze figure of Lionel Messi after being erected in his country, was attacked for the first time in the region of the waist by criminals or vandals. The statue of the Argentine broke in two after the first attack. Efforts were made to fix it even when the top of the statue was taken away by vandals.
- As if that were not enough, after a short period of time the same year, the vandals returned a second time with their tools to do more damage to the statue of Messi. They cut the statue and left it near the base after cutting it down to the ankle region.
All this happened at the time when Lionel Messi was strongly criticized by the fans of Argentina, after his failures and that of the National Team in the delivery of a great trophy. Neither the Copa América trophy nor the World Cup trophy.
However, this time things will be different if the Lionel Messi statue is re-erected, as he has now won the America’s Cup for him and his country.
