In his comments, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, described Adefaye as a man who stood by his side when he was enthroned as monarch of Ife.

He said, “This is a double honor for the celebrant. Despite being a true son of the earth, he is straightforward in his approach and he has a vast knowledge of events in this country.

“He is someone very dear to my heart because during my transition in life, he was there for me; he was by my side.

“I have joy in my heart because I have been looking for ways to celebrate it. I asked him a couple of weeks ago, with modesty and calm, but he told me: “Kabiyesi, we are not going to do much.”

“I am happy and satisfied to be here. It gives me so much joy to be here to celebrate you and give you this honor.

“God who created you and preserved your life knows why he did it. Many people have died but you are alive; it’s worth celebrating. “

Adefaye’s achievement speaks for him – Ray Ekpu

The president of the event, Mr. Ray Ekpu praised the former president of NGE and said that his achievements speak for him.

Ekpu said: “I told him, 60 speaks well of you and does not speak well of you either, first because if you had not told me, I would have told him that you are 50 years old.

“On the other hand, he speaks well of you because he is the Editor-in-Chief and General Manager, Rector of the NIJ, former president of the Nigerian Publishers Guild, member of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos, among other positions.

“When you look at all this, he has a humble family and when you look at this in addition to all the position he has held, he has done very well and 60, in terms of achievements, speaks well of him.”

He is a journalist teacher – Fayemi

Governor Fayemi, in his tributes, described Adefaye as a teacher journalist.

He said: “I am here as a reporter. I belong to this profession; I belong to this profession that put our brother, Gbenga Adefaye, in the spotlight.

“I am the product of his intense investment over the years. We all know him as that reverend at Vanguard Newspaper and also a teacher journalist who, to me, is the highest form of duty and beyond just writing history in a hurry.

“It is a pleasure for me to be here and I am also here on behalf of other governors who told me to represent them on this occasion.

“Adefaye is a good friend and I am happy because he celebrates his 60th birthday.

“It is important and I am glad that it is a flat full of experience and success.”

Also speaking, the managing director of Leadership Newspapers, Mr. Ishiekwene, described Adefaye as the high priest of the media clique.

He said: “Some of us who know him know that there is a clique in the media and some of us know that the celebrant is the high priest of the media clique.

“I would like to say that it is a great honor for me to be here. We had a dinner for him in Abuja, which was organized by the guild.

“He has accomplished a lot in the industry and I wish for more accomplishments.

“He has a deep compassion and knowledge for the profession. I have worked with him for the past 25 years and have watched him under pressure.

“He maintains his trust and when you are in trouble and need advice, he has a kind word to say to you.

“He has dedicated his life and everything to the service of the profession and we are very grateful.”

He is a man of honor and integrity-Akande

Former Investment Minister Ms Akande praised Adefaye for taking Vanguard to a high level.

She akande said: “He is a hardworking man; a man who has taken Vanguard to a very high level.

“I have known him for many years; he is a man of honor and integrity. “

Sam Amuka is still my role model – Adefaye

In his remarks, the celebrant, Mr. Adefaye praised his wife, Vanguard Publisher, and the organizers for providing him with a charity birthday ceremony.

He said: “I celebrate the birthdays of my children from one to seven years old, but subsequent birthdays, I took them to the nearest bookstore and bought them books.

“It is sad that we are in an era where people no longer read. Therefore, I make it a duty for you to read.

“When it comes to birthday celebrations, I have a role model in Mr. Sam Amuka, president and editor of Vanguard newspaper.

“On each day of his birthday, he disappears; he cares less about the birthday celebration.

“This birthday is a blow against me and they could do it because of the coronavirus that prevented me from traveling abroad.

“Usually I travel abroad on my birthday, but due to the coronavirus, I decided to stay behind.

“The editor of Vanguard newspapers, Mr. Eze Anaba and my wife, planned the birthday. I am grateful to Vanguard Media Limited, my family, friends and supporters.

“Once again, I am grateful to my president, Uncle Sam. Vanguard has always been my family since 1986 and since then I am grateful.

“It is not about money but about satisfaction. I will remember him today for the rest of my life. “
