Barcelona manager, Quique Setien, has said that he left forward, Antoine Griezmann, on the bench until the final seconds of their 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night because Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Riqui Puig were doing well against Diego Simeone’s men.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid played a draw at Camp Nou, following goals from Lionel Messi (1), Diego Costa (own goal), and Saul Niguez (2).
Setien left Griezmann, a €120million signing from Atletico Madrid last summer, on the bench until the final seconds, when the France international replaced Arturo Vidal.
Asked why he left Griezmann on the bench, Setien was quoted by Evening Standard as saying after the match: “I didn’t do it before because the ones who were on, were doing well. Riqui [Puig], [Leo] Messi, [Luis] Suarez.
“It’s not easy to find a place without destabilizing the team,” he added.
Griezmann will now hope to start for Barcelona when they face Villarreal on Sunday in their next La Liga fixture.
